Health Promoting Schools Committee raise the HPS Flag

March 18, 2019

On Friday last the Health Promoting Schools Committee were delighted to be able to raise the HPS flag on completion of the Health Promoting Schools three-year programme. Coláiste Clavin is now recognised as a school that is promoting Health and Wellbeing for all students.

The Health Promoting Schools committee, which was made up of teachers, students and parents aimed to improve small areas of our school over the course of three years focusing on all aspects of health & well-being including; healthy eating, physical activity and positive mental health.

The committee aimed to encourage our entire school community to be more conscious of how simple life decisions can affect their health (emotionally & physically) long term.

We hoped to encourage the community to become more proactive in their own lives, to make better and more informed choices relating to both their physical and psychological health.

The committee wanted to raise awareness of the importance of mental health in our community, to encourage discussion around it and to encourage people to talk to each other if they are struggling.

We hoped to make our school a safe and welcoming environment, where our student’s well being is a top priority and where students feel safe at all times.

We are delighted that our work over the last three years was recognised last week by Anne Walshe the HSE Health Promotion Officer in our area. The committee is already planning into the future and during the week asked students, parents and teachers to complete surveys accessing the progress made to date with feedback gathered to form our aims for the coming years.
