Today six History Students from 1st Year represented the School at the Young Historian LMETB Competition in Slane Castle. Each LMETB School was allowed six representatives at the competition. Ms Purcell their History Teacher was proud of the six students as they all had put a huge effort into their submissions. Ms Purcell along with Mr O’Connell and Ms Murray also History Teachers in the School picked from all the 1st Year History Students submissions, two students for each of the three categories to represent the School. Out of the possible 9 prizes we scopped 2 of these prizes which is very impressive as all the LMETB Schools were involved in the competition and the standard was extremely high. Orlaith O’Reilly pictured below won the “Project” Category and Abbie Muldowney came 3rd in the “Poster” Category.
Pictured below is the outside cover of Orlaith O’Reilly’s Project on the Middle Ages that came 1st in the “Project” category. This was an excellent achievement for Orlaith since there was very stiff competition from the other Schools in this category.
Pictured below is Abbie Muldowney’s Poster of a Medieval Castle that came 3rd in the Poster Category. Abbie had spent a couple of weeks sketching the Castle while showing some of the key labels of a Castle. Abbie is a talented artist which can be seen in this sketch.
Pictured below is Eoin Sheerin’s Siege Ladder laying siege to the Castle Wall. Eoin unfortunately didn’t place in the “Model” Category but it is obvious he put in a huge effort into his entry as his siege ladder can move and open at the front and he even made a castle wall with archers lined up on the top and behind the slit windows
Pictured below is Sophie Kavanagh’s Paper Mechanic of a Castle. Sophie unfortunately didn’t place in the “Poster” Category but this is very impressive as it is very interactive and informative. Sophie is another promising artist as can be seen from her work.
Pictured below is Cian Crowe Doyle’s Iron Age Settlement. Cian unfortunately didn’t place in the “Model” Category but it is obvious he put in a huge effort into his entry showing the defence nature of the settlement from the time and their dwellings.
Pictured below is Rhys Black’s Ancient Rome Project. Rhys unfortunately didn’t place in the “Project” Category but Rhys put in a huge effort into telling us all about Ancient Rome and their everyday life.
