History students receive our national flag as part of the 1916 commemorations

March 8, 2016

On Monday 7th March, Robyn Leech (3A), Shauna Murphy (3B) and Chloe O’Neill (6B) arrived in Croke Park to partake in the nationwide Flag Ceremony. Every Post Primary School in the country took part, and despite the freezing weather, the Students highly enjoyed speeches from the likes of Ryan Tubridy, members of the Air Corps, and an inspirational speech from President Michael D. Higgins. Robyn Leech accepted the flag on behalf of the School. The 1916 Rising marked the beginning of the use of the tricolour as our national flag as it flew over the rebel headquarters of the GPO. Previous to this the flag we used was green background with a harp. Our flag brings great pride to all of us. The 1916 Rising marked the beginning of the end of British Rule in Ireland.
