Coláiste Clavin wins School of Distinction: Community Award from Trinity Access, Trinity College Dublin

Coláiste Clavin has been recognised by Trinity Access, Trinity College Dublin, for their ongoing work in creating a college-going culture in their school.

The Schools of Distinction Award, conferred by Trinity Access, Trinity College Dublin, recognises and showcases the efforts of schools nationwide to transform their school culture and to develop innovative approaches to teaching and learning. The scheme recognises the often extraordinary work being successfully undertaken by schools in challenging conditions and with limited resources. It encourages participants to draw on their own school and community resources and the resources of the Trinity Access project in Trinity College Dublin to support educational innovation and change.

This School of Distinction: Community Award, recognises the achievement of schools who have joined our Community of Practice and engaged in a process of evaluating and identifying the needs of their students and teachers through our School Survey. Community Award winners set relevant targets to address these needs and action student centred programmes with the aim of embedding a college-going culture in their school. Schools that win this award have begun the process of engaging their students in the 3 core practices of Pathways to College, Mentoring and Leadership in Learning and have plans to expand these innovative programmes in the future.

This award scheme aims to support the development of ‘college-going’ practices and a student-centred, innovative learning environment across schools nationwide. Coláiste Clavin was deemed by the judges to have submitted an excellent application. The judges were impressed by both the wonderful work taking place in the school and the ambitious plans in place for next year/s. It is clear that the three core practices align with the school’s ideals and that a collaboration between Trinity Access and Coláiste Clavin will result in bright futures for the students involved.

Fiona Kindlon,  Director of Schools, LMETB added her congratulations to the school, stating that ‘LMETB Mission Statement is Excellence and Innovation in Education delivered by professional staff. This award is affirmation for all the school community that Coláiste Clavin are implementing the mission statement of LMETB on a daily basis.’

Ms Kindlon continued ‘With increasing enrolments, greater number of students progressing to further and higher education, a state of the art new building, the integration of a 12 place SNU, new appointees to promotional posts and increasing staffing for the school there is no doubt that Coláiste Clavin will continue to hit the headlines with many positive advancements’

The school will be formally presented with their award on the 15th October, while in the interim the links with Trinity Access Programme will continue to flourish, transforming every aspect of teaching and learning, and increasing opportunity for progression to third level education for every student in the school.
