LMETB is delighted to announce that Ms Margaret Deegan has been appointed to the position of Principal in the newly built Coláiste Clavin, Longwood, Co. Meath. Margaret takes up this position following the retirement of Mr Tom Stack who has been Principal in the school over the past 18 years. Prior to this appointment Margaret held the post of Deputy Principal at Ó Fiaich College, Dundalk, since September 2016 with responsibility for both the Post Primary and Post Leaving Certificate College.
Having worked with LMETB over the past 16 years, Margaret brings with her a wealth of experience in managing large teams, dealing with a broad range of educational partners and most importantly empowering students to recognise their potential and supporting them to achieve their goals both in further education and the workplace. Amongst her qualification are a B.A. in Geography and Anthropology from Maynooth University, Higher Diploma in Educational Management and a Master’s Degree in Technology and Learning from Trinity College, Dublin. She is a recipient of the Teaching Council Bursary in recognition of her research in ePortfolios and Communities of learning and has represented LMETB at home and abroad in the Microsoft Innovative Teacher of the Future Fora. Living for many years in Co. Meath, Margaret has forged strong links with school leaders throughout the county and has worked extensively with Third Level colleges in the region. She says “I am so proud and excited to be appointed to this role, Coláiste Clavin has a strong vibrant teaching team, state of the art facilities, the support and participation of committed parents and members of the local community, and I have no doubt that all of that will ensure that our students receive the very best educational opportunity possible. We are poised to open the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) unit over the coming weeks and look forward to warmly welcoming all of our student cohort as they walk through our doors.”
In addition to the appointment of Principal, Ms Orla McBride has been appointed to the position of Deputy Principal following the retirement of former Deputy Principal Ms Monica Clarke. Orla comes to Coláiste Clavin from St. Ciarán’s Community School, Kells, where she worked as Programme Coordinator across LCVP, Transition Year and Leaving Certificate Applied programmes and as a teacher of Irish and German since 1994. Orla holds a B.A. in Irish and German from Maynooth University and has significant additional accreditation across Teaching & Learning and ICT methodologies and practices. Orla has gained an enviable reputation in the area of student leadership and those skills will be of great benefit to the school community in Coláiste Clavin. She is a former Irish International basketball player and brings a passion for sport and wellbeing to the school. We look forward to exciting sporting achievements ahead.
Coláiste Clavin is well recognised locally as a centre of teaching excellence with outstanding achievements, a progressive approach to education and strong links to the community. This has come about through the great work done over many years by Mr Stack, Ms Clarke and the teaching staff. We thank them all for their hard work and dedication and wish Mr Stack and Ms Clarke a long, healthy and happy retirement.
